Recreational SOFTBALL
Westfield Youth Sports offers five recreational softball leagues in the fall (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14/16U*).
All leagues will focus on teaching the players the fundamentals of the sport. Previous experience is not required. Games will be played primarily against other WYSI teams, with some built-in travel within Hamilton County for some games.

Clinics: WYSI Softball is working to gather information on clinics to be offered for Rec and Travel Softball players, focused on pitching, hitting and fielding.
Coaches: We need volunteers! Make sure to sign up to be a coach or assistant coach!
Equipment Checklist:
- Each player should have her own fielding mask and glove.
- Cleats (not metal) are recommended for all divisions, though 6U and 8U may be able to wear tennis shoes with tread.
- Batting Helmets should have a metal cage around the face. (WYSI can provide helmets for some players.)
- A bat can be borrowed, and most 6U and 8U coaches will have an extra bat in their gear bag.
Uniforms:
- WYSI will provide each player with sleeveless jerseys.
- Tall socks and black softball pants are recommended. 6U can wear shorts. 8U is up to the discretion of the coach.
- Sweatshirts can be worn during games in case of cold weather.
Practices & Games:
- Each team will have one practice per week.
- Games will be once a week, during the week. (10U, 12U and 14/16U may play on a Saturday away from Westfield.)
- Most practices will be held at Monon Trail Softball Complex or Grand Park.
- 6U will have their practices and games on the same day. Their practice slot will be divided in half: Half for practice, and half for a game against the team they will share the field with.
- 6U & 8U will have their practices/games from 5:30-7:00
- 10U will have their practices either 5:30-7:00 or 7:00-8:30
- 12U & 14/16U will have their practices 7:00-8:30

- 6U: (4, 5, 6 yr. olds)*
- 8U: (7-8 yr. olds)
- 10U: ( 9-10 yr. olds)
- 12U: (11-12 yr. olds)
- 14/16U: (13-16 yr. olds)*
*These leagues are dependent on registration numbers. Must have no fewer than 12 players registered for 6U and for 14/16U to be an active league.

League Descriptions
6U League: This league is designed for players ages 4-, 5-, and 6-years-old. The emphasis will be on learning the basics of softball while learning about sportsmanship and having fun. Players will receive equal playing time.
8U League: This league is designed for players ages 7 & 8. (Younger players may be permitted to be evaluated, but for the safety of your player, we encourage you to register for the Instructional League.) Players receive equal playing time, with the emphasis on learning the game, sportsmanship, proper skill development, and having fun. This is a competitive, open-participation league. RULES
10U League: This league is designed for players ages 9 & 10. (Younger players may be permitted to be evaluated, but for the safety of your player we encourage you to register for the 8U league.) Pitching will be a hybrid between players and coaches. Emphasis will be placed on further skill development, sportsmanship, knowledge of the game, and having fun. This is a competitive, open-participation league. RULES
12U League: This league is designed for girls ages 11 & 12. (Younger players may be permitted to be evaluated, but for the safety of your player we encourage you to register for the 10U league.) Emphasis is on further skill development, sportsmanship, knowledge of the game, and having fun. Our goal is to start preparing for high school-level softball. This is a competitive, open-participation league. RULES
14/16U League: This league is designed for girls ages 13-18, including high school students. (Younger players may be permitted to be evaluated, but for the safety of your player we encourage you to register for the 12U league.) Emphasis is on further skill development, sportsmanship, knowledge of the game, and having fun. This is a competitive, open-participation league. RULES
