Take the First Step Toward Excellence
Recreational SOFTBALL
Westfield Youth Sports offers four recreational softball leagues in the spring (8U, 10U, 12U, 18U).
All leagues will focus on teaching the players the fundamentals of the sport. Previous experience is not required, however Westfield Youth Sports will conduct player evaluations for 8U, 10U and 12U in an attempt to keep teams evenly matched. Games will be played primarily against other Westfield Youth Sports teams with some travel built-in within Hamilton County for county-league games.
Important Dates to Remember:
March 8 – Coaches Meeting (registered assistant and head coaches only)
March 16 – First day of Practices
March 28 – Opening Day at Grand Park! (*Typically, when we do team pics)
April 3-10 – WWS Spring Break: No practices or games
June 1 – Start of the WYSI Tournament
Equipment Checklist:
- Each player should have her own fielding mask and glove.
- Cleats (not metal) are recommended for all divisions, though 8U can possibly get away with wearing tennis shoes.
- Batting Helmets should have a metal cage around the face.
- A bat can be borrowed, and most 8U coaches will have an extra bat in their gear bag.
Uniforms:
- WYSI provides each player with black softball pants, a jersey and a pair of tall socks that match the color of the jersey.
- Extra softball pants can be purchased, if needed. (Play It Again Sports / Dick's Sporting Goods)
- Sweatshirts can be worn during games in the case of cold weather.
Practices & Games:
- We will try to have two practices a week for all age divisions, leading up to the start of games.
- Once the season starts, practices will likely move to once a week.
- All practices are 90 minutes long.
- Most practices will be held at Monon Trail Softball Complex or Grand Park, or we may also utilize Habig Fields, if needed.
- 8U will have their practices from 5:30-7:00.
- 10U will have practices either 5:30-7:00 or 7:00-8:30.
- 12U will have practice 7:00-8:30.
- Games will be 1-2 times a week, with one game on a weekday and one game on a Saturday. This may vary from week to week.
- Most games will be held at either Monon Trail Softball Complex or Grand Park.
- We will play mostly in-house, but we have a relationship with the Noblesville and Sheridan leagues
- All ages will play either at Sheridan/Noblesville or host Sheridan/Noblesville at Westfield throughout the season.
- Games last 75 minutes and are in the same timeframe as practices (5:30-7:00, 7:00-8:30).
