Sport Overview
WYSI Tennis is aimed at teaching the fundamentals of tennis in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. There is no
experience necessary to play, only a willingness to learn, listen, and have fun!
Note: Enrollment numbers are limited. Once the enrollment numbers have been met, enrollment will close and all others
will be placed on a wait list. Unfortunately our numbers must be capped due to limited court space. We encourage
players to enroll early!
Practices and games will be held at the Westfield High School Tennis Complex.
League Descriptions (2024)
5-7 year-old League (Youth Tennis | Red Ball | co-ed)
Saturday’s 9-10am | June 8 - July 20 (Rain date July 27)
Limit: 60 players
Note: no practice on July 6,due to the July 4 holiday.
For young players working on agility, balance, and coordination while introducing the fun sport of tennis. Clinic will utilizing the larger, slower bouncing red ball on 36 ft. court. Registration cost covers an age appropriate racquet, t-shirt, balls, coaches, facility, insurance, and website fees. All players in this league will receive a tennis racquet.
- The main focus of this program is to make tennis fun for kids
- Kids will be taught the fundamental of tennis including forehand, backhand, volleys, and serve
- Age and level appropriate drills and games will reinforce the fundamentals while also working on eye-hand coordination, footwork, movement and teamwork
8-9 year-old League (Youth Tennis | Orange Ball | co-ed)
Saturday’s 10:15-11:15am | June 8 - July 20 (Rain date July 27)
Limit: 60 players
Note: no practice on July 6, due to July 4 holiday.
For players who are transitioning into orange ball and learning to play on the 60 ft. court. Players will work on being able to consistently rally and cooperate with a partner. Registration cost covers an age appropriate racquet, t-shirt, balls, coaches, facility, insurance, and website fees. All players in this league will receive a tennis racquet.
- Activities and games will focus on developing groundstroke consistency, serve direction and transition to the net
- Drills will be fun, fast-paced with focus on building confidence, sportsmanship and teamwork
- Red balls, on 36 ft. court, can also be used as needed
10-11 year old League (Junior Team Tennis | co-ed)
June 11 - July 24 (Rain dates July 30/31).
Tuesday’s Practices: 6-7pm.
Wednesday’s Matches: 6-7:30pm
Limit: 60 players.
For players who are transitioning into full-court play with green balls. This session will further emphasize player’s ability to adjust to different heights and depth, while maintaining technical foundation, and covering the full court effectively. Players will be further exposed to transitioning to the net, more advanced tactics and serve consistency and scoring. Registration cost covers a t-shirt, balls, trophies, coaches, facility, insurance, and website fees.
- This division is great for returning intermediate level players.
- All players will receive equal practice and match play time (See match format information)
- If player is not ready for match play they will continue to practice on scheduled match days, however, the goal will be to teach kids to play in matches as quickly as possible
- This division will end with a round robin tournament with fun prizes and snacks on the last date, July 19 (or July 26 if rain date is needed).
12-15 year old League (Junior Team Tennis | co-ed)
June 11 - July 25 (Rain dates: July 30/Aug 1)
Tuesday’s Practices: 7:15-8:15pm.
Thursday’s Matches: 6-7:30pm
Limit: 60 players.
Junior Team Tennis (JTT) brings together boys and girls, to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Beyond being fun, JTT sessions are dedicated to serve players in need of further skill development in order to move into more competitive play. Through a variety of game-based and cooperative drills on practice nights, players will learn the fundamental skills needed to continue to progress in match play. Registration cost covers a t-shirt, balls, trophies, coaches, facility, insurance, and website fees.
This division is great for returning intermediate level players, middle school players and players just starting competitive match play.
- All players will receive equal practice and match play time (See match format information)
- If player is not ready for match play they will continue to practice on scheduled match days, however, the goal will be to teach kids to play in matches as quickly as possible
- This division will end with a round robin tournament with fun prizes and snacks on the last date, July 25 (or August 1 if rain date is needed).
