Sport Overview
WYSI Field Hockey is aimed at teaching the fundamentals of field hockey in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. There is no
experience necessary to play, only a willingness to learn, listen, and have fun!
Field Hockey is a co-ed sport - boys and girls are eligible to participate.
3rd-5th grade league – This league is designed for beginners and it is usually the first time that the child is
introduced to formal field hockey play. They will learn the basic rules of the game, as well as the proper way to pass
and hit the ball.
6th-8th grade league – This league is still ideal for beginners of appropriate age, but there will be others on
the team with a little more experience. They will master the rules as well as hone their skills.
High School league – This is the most competitive league but beginners have also been successful in this league, as playing with the more experienced players
usually helps their game to come along.
