TRACK & FIELD OVERVIEW
Welcome to WYSI Track & Field!
For 2024 we are building on the success of the program in recent years. The program will be open to all athletes ages 7+ on or before December 31, 2024.
This program is very much a fundamental skills building program filled with volunteer parent coaches who have a passion for the sport. Your athlete will learn the funadmental skills for events that they are interested in. We are always looking for parent coaches with experience or a willingness to learn the skills alongside their athletes and a head coach.

PARENTS MEETING/FIELD EVENT TRY OUT NIGHT
We will discuss the season in greater detail at mandatory Parents Meeting on April 15, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the Westfield High School Stadium. While the parent meeting is going on, your athlete will have the opportunity to try out any or all of the field events. The goal for try out night is to narrow down what events your athlete would like to focus on during practices and meets. If your athlete is not interested in field events, they do not need to attend. The parent meeting will still be mandatory. PRACTICES, MEETS, AND OTHER INFORMATION
- Practices: Practices will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m. One practice a week will have a 30 minute extended time to practice field events, starting blocks, or relay baton work.
It is not required to attend every practice but encouraged to participate whenever possible.
We will encourage athletes to focus on UP TO three events for the season. Athletes will choose one event to practice during each practice which will allow our coaches to teach proper form/technique for each discipline. They will remain with that event the whole practice. They can choose another event for the next practice that week.
In-House Meets: We will host two in-house meets. Athletes will have an opportunity to try a variety of events and get used to the flow of a track meet. These events are relatively laid back, fun and will show the athletes how a meet is run.
INDIANA YOUTH TRACK ASSOCIATION (IYTA) MEETS
All athletes in our club will have the opportunity to participate in four (4) local Saturday meets as part of the IYTA (Indiana Youth Track Association). Your athlete may have a couple of hours in between events.
